Car Crash on Atlantic Road: Four Hospitalized, Oil Leak & Power Station Damage
A traffic accident occurred on the Atlantic Road near Storlauvøya in Averøy, Norway, at 10:18 PM on Friday evening, police reported. The vehicle left the roadway and came to rest approximately 100 meters away, in the shoreline rocks.
Initial reports indicated four individuals were inside the vehicle. Operasjonsleder Tove Susann Brunvold Holst-Dyrnes stated that the extent of any injuries was initially unknown, but there were no immediate reports of serious harm. All four occupants were subsequently transported to the hospital by ambulance, Holst-Dyrnes confirmed approximately fifteen minutes later.
Authorities reported significant damage to the vehicle. During the incident, the car struck and damaged a transformer station, resulting in an oil leak. A 50-meter safety perimeter was established due to the risk of explosion, according to police. The local fire department, yet, indicated the explosion risk was relatively low, stating the safety zone was a precautionary measure for both the public and personnel working in the area.
The energy company NEAS was dispatched to assess and address the damage to the transformer station. Police concluded their on-scene investigation shortly after midnight.
While there is no indication of driving under the influence, police have impounded the driver’s license and are opening a formal investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
Storlauvøya is located on the Atlantic Road, a five-mile stretch of Route 64 linking the western part of Averøy Island with the mainland. The Atlantic Road, known in Norwegian as Atlanterhavsvegen, is a popular tourist destination and was featured in the James Bond film “No Time To Die.” The scenic route extends for a total of 22 miles from Kårvåg to Bud.
