Captain Aaron Ramsey Returns to Wales Squad for England Friendly

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Wales captain Aaron Ramsey has been recalled to ⁣the national team squad for the first time in 13 months, bolstering⁣ Rob Page’s‍ options ahead of their upcoming⁣ World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia. Ramsey’s inclusion marks a‍ significant return for the experienced midfielder, who last ‍featured for ‌Wales in November 2022.

The recall comes amid concerns‍ over⁢ an ankle injury to Leeds United winger ‌Daniel James, currently ⁣undergoing‍ assessment. Wales manager Craig Bellamy confirmed the issue in a press conference, stating, “He has an ankle problem. We’ll wait⁢ and see, nothing has been confirmed yet ⁢so if it’s good, brilliant, but if it ‍isn’t ⁢then we’ll adapt. We’re just waiting for confirmation. It’s‌ still too early so we’ll wait⁢ and see on that.” Leeds manager Daniel Farke is expected to provide a further update during ⁤Thursday’s press⁤ conference, though any absence is not expected to be long-term.

Wales’ trip to Wembley to‌ face ‍England on March 26th will be their first as a 3-0 defeat in the 2022 World Cup group stage. The Dragons haven’t beaten England since 1984. ⁣Currently third in their World⁢ cup qualifying group, Wales trail north Macedonia by one point and are level with Belgium, who have a game ⁤in hand. The group winner qualifies ‍directly for the World Cup, with Wales almost guaranteed a play-off place due to their Nations League results.
