Capitals‘ Pierre-Luc Dubois to Undergo Surgery, Expected to Miss Important Time
DALLAS, TX – October 28, 2025 - A significant blow to the washington Capitals’ forward lineup: Pierre-Luc Dubois will undergo surgery to repair injuries to his abdominal and adductor muscles, the team announced Sunday. The expected recovery timeframe is three to four months, effectively ruling him out for a substantial portion of the 2025-26 NHL season.
The injury occurred during the first period of Washington’s 3-1 loss to the New York Islanders on October 31st. Dubois’s knee gave way during a faceoff in the defensive zone, leading to the initial diagnosis of a lower-body injury. Further evaluation revealed the need for surgical intervention.
This absence comes at a critical juncture for Dubois, who is in the third year of an eight-year, $68 million contract. Through six games this season, the 27-year-old forward has yet to register a point.
Dubois has established himself as a consistent NHL performer throughout his career, amassing 408 points (165 goals and 243 assists) in 604 games played with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings, and now the Washington Capitals. He was originally selected third overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Blue Jackets, marking the beginning of a promising NHL career.
the Capitals will undoubtedly feel the impact of Dubois’s absence as they navigate a competitive Eastern Conference. Updates on his recovery will be provided as they become available.
