Cancún: Fire at Abandoned Playboy Casino – No Injuries Reported

A fire broke out Sunday afternoon at the former Playboy casino in Cancún’s Hotel Zone, authorities reported. The blaze, which occurred around kilometer 3.5 on Kukulcán Boulevard, caused material damage to the abandoned structure but no injuries were reported.

According to initial reports, tourists and residents observed a large plume of smoke rising from the unoccupied building, prompting immediate calls to the 911 emergency line. Firefighters, Civil Protection personnel and Tourism Police responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities secured the area to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists while firefighters began extinguishing the flames. After several minutes, the fire was brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties. Officials confirmed that the damage was limited to the interior of the building, which had been vacant for an unspecified period.

Witnesses at the scene indicated that the abandoned casino had been used as a makeshift shelter by people experiencing homelessness. However, emergency responders found no one inside the premises when they arrived. The building is located on Avenida Kukulcán, a major thoroughfare in the Hotel Zone, according to information from the Global Casino Guide.
