Canary Islands Weather: Tuesday Forecast – Rain & Temperatures

March 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Strong storms and heavy showers have been battering the Canary Islands since early Tuesday morning, with conditions expected to persist throughout the day. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are currently experiencing cloudy skies with occasional breaks and scattered, locally heavy showers are possible. The Aemet, Spain’s national weather service, forecasts that these showers will diminish in the afternoon, giving way to clearer or partly cloudy skies.

Temperatures across the islands are expected to remain relatively stable, with highs reaching 21°C in both Arrecife, Lanzarote, and Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura, and lows of 15°C and 16°C respectively. A southwesterly wind, moderate in strength, will gradually weaken throughout the afternoon and shift to a northerly direction by evening.

Gran Canaria is also experiencing cloudy conditions with the possibility of scattered, heavy showers, particularly during the early hours. Temperatures in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will range from a low of 16°C to a high of 22°C. Winds will be light, predominantly from the south, shifting to the east overnight.

Tenerife, La Gomera, and La Palma are facing similar conditions – cloudy skies with occasional breaks and a risk of showers and thunderstorms, most likely overnight. Temperatures on Tenerife will range from 16°C to 22°C in Santa Cruz, while La Gomera will spot temperatures between 16°C and 21°C in San Sebastián. Santa Cruz de La Palma is expected to experience temperatures between 13°C and 22°C. Frost is possible at higher elevations on Tenerife and La Palma.

El Hierro is also under a similar weather pattern, with temperatures ranging from 11°C to 16°C in Valverde. Winds across the islands are generally light, with a southerly component.

Maritime conditions are also challenging. The sea area off the coasts of La Palma, El Hierro, Tenerife, and La Gomera is experiencing north to northeast winds of 3 to 5, occasionally reaching 6 in the northwest overnight. Marejadilla or marejada conditions are expected, potentially becoming a strong marejada in the northwest overnight. Wave heights are around 2 meters, with poor visibility due to showers, and storms. The high tide will occur at 4:56 AM and 5:24 PM, while low tide is expected at 10:55 AM and 11:39 PM.

Access to the coastline in the northwest, west, and southwest of Lanzarote has been prohibited due to the hazardous conditions, with the red flag flying, according to reports on social media.
