Canaries Secure Win Over RedHawks wiht Explosive Early Offense
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Sioux Falls Canaries defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 8-2 on Sunday at the Bird Cage, fueled by a powerful offensive showing in the early innings.
The Canaries jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning with a two-run double by Peter Zimmermann.The momentum continued in the bottom of the second as Trevor Achenbach launched a solo home run. Later in the same frame, Calvin Estrada blasted a three-run home run, extending Sioux Falls’ advantage.
Fargo-Moorhead managed to score a solo home run in the sixth inning,but the Canaries responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. A run scored on a double play, and Estrada added an RBI infield single.
Pitcher Ryan Zimmerman delivered a strong performance, pitching seven innings while allowing only one run on four hits and striking out six batters. Matt Ruiz also contributed considerably to the Canaries’ offense, recording three hits.
With the win, the Canaries (57-42) have clinched a third-place finish in the west Division. They will conclude their regular season schedule on Monday at 11:05 a.m.
