Cameron Norrie Beats Matteo Arnaldi to Reach Paris Masters Second Round
It was interesting,
Katie Boulter said after overcoming an unusual distraction to reach the last 16 of the Hong Kong Open. Heading into the final stretch of the tennis season, the British number one battled past Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) despite an incident that left her visibly unsettled.
Boulter appeared firmly in control during the second-set tie before administrative friction disrupted her rhythm. Serving for the match at 5-2 up, the eighth-seeded Briton complained to the umpire when a point was not replayed following an audible noise from outside the court. The interruption allowed Golubic to claw back, breaking Boulter twice and forcing a tight sequence before the world number 49 regained her composure in the tiebreak. I was playing some really good tennis. I feel like I should have closed it out but a couple of things happened,
Boulter told reporters, adding that fatigue at the end of a long season contributed to her frustration.
Cameron Norrie Secures Paris Victory
While Boulter played through tricky conditions in Hong Kong, British number two Cameron Norrie brought an end to a difficult stretch on the ATP Tour. Playing at the Rolex Paris Masters, Norrie defeated Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in one hour and 41 minutes. The 31-year-old admitted to putting a lot of expectation on himself throughout the year after recording his first ATP Tour win since August.
Norrie dropped the second set after Arnaldi broke him three times, but regrouped in the decider to secure a vital break and close out the match. I’m just trying to enjoy my tennis. It’s been a difficult year for me and I don’t really care any more – I just want to play, and play to win,
Norrie told Sky Sports. The victory sets up a second-round meeting in Paris against American Ben Shelton, who recently announced that Carlos Alcaraz’s former mentor Juan Carlos Ferrero will join his coaching team in 2027.
Venus Williams Extends Losing Streak in Hong Kong
Boulter now moves forward to face American Claire Liu in the next round as she looks to build on her deep run at the Japan Open from the previous month. Norrie turns his attention to facing Shelton on the hard courts of Paris, aiming to maintain the momentum found after halting his recent slump.
