Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 slated for October 23 release
Activision’s upcoming first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for global release on October 23, 2026, bringing significant narrative shifts and technical updates to the franchise. According to reporting from 商傳媒 SUN MEDIA, the title introduces a darker storyline in which legendary character Captain Price operates as a fugitive pursued by former allies following the dissolution of Task Force 141.
The October 23 launch follows an early access period starting on October 16 for eligible digital pre-order customers, as reported by 商傳媒 SUN MEDIA. Platforms supporting the release include PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, according to 商傳媒 SUN MEDIA. This release marks the first time a Call of Duty title has appeared on a Nintendo platform since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, while also bypassing the previous generation of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One hardware.
Captain Price Operates Independently to Track Weapon System
商傳媒 SUN MEDIA reported that following the assassination events involving General Shepherd, Task Force 141 is disbanded, leaving Captain Price to operate independently to track down a high-impact weapon system. Former allies such as Ghost and Gaz are assigned to track or eliminate him, while Price forms an alliance with Las Almas cartel leader Valeria Garza and maintains contact with Kate Laswell. Activision characterizes Price as an agent turned fugitive working to prevent the weapon from falling into the hands of an adversary designated as "Archer."
The game employs a dual-narrative structure that pairs Price’s shadow war with the frontline struggles of South Korean soldier Private Park Hyun Jun, as detailed by 商傳媒 SUN MEDIA. Park’s storyline begins with the North Korean invasion of South Korea, taking players through trench warfare, urban combat in New York, a pursuit in Paris, a night raid by the SAS in Mumbai, and operations to retake occupied territories.

Infinity Ward Introduces Ballistic Authority System
Development studio Infinity Ward is introducing the "Ballistic Authority System" to unify trajectory, weapon dynamics, operator posture, camera behavior, audio, field of view, and target visibility, according to 商傳媒 SUN MEDIA. The mechanic aims to deliver predictable weapon performance and removes the traditional muzzle bloom mechanism to increase shooting precision.
Alongside weapon adjustments, Activision announced modifications to the double experience token system. Instead of counting down in real time while players wait in lobbies, search for matches, or manage loadouts, 2XP tokens will now tick down exclusively during active match time. Furthermore, unused double XP tokens earned in Black Ops 7 will carry forward into Modern Warfare 4, and the game supports cross-title progression for operators, skins, and weapon blueprints from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7.
Server Side Culling Restricts Unauthorized Data Access
The system shifts visibility calculations to the server side, utilizing occlusion layers to halt positional data transmission for enemies hidden behind walls or terrain. This server-side culling operates alongside the existing RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system to restrict unauthorized data access without replacing primary detection software.
