Call of Duty: Black Ops & Black Ops II Officially Confirmed for PS4 & PS5 Ports – Release Date & Details

June 18, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Treyarch confirmed on Thursday that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II will receive official ports to PlayStation 5, according to a statement shared by Eurogamer.es. The ports, developed by Iron Galaxy, will launch in July, as reported by 3DJuegos and Hobby Consolas. No further technical specifications or platform availability for PlayStation 4 were disclosed in the initial announcement.

Iron Galaxy, a studio known for retro game conversions, has previously handled ports of titles like Contra: Rogue Corps and Overwatch to modern hardware. The company’s involvement in the Black Ops ports was first mentioned in a press release from Activision, which cited the move as part of broader efforts to expand the franchise’s accessibility. A spokesperson for Activision declined to comment beyond the official statement, according to Indigo Geek.

The announcement follows years of fan demand for the Black Ops series on PlayStation, which originally launched on Xbox platforms. Black Ops, released in 2010, and its 2012 sequel Black Ops II have remained exclusive to Microsoft consoles despite their commercial success. The ports mark the first time the games will be available on Sony hardware, according to 3DJuegos. No details about backward compatibility with PlayStation 4 were included in the confirmed release schedule.

Industry analysts noted the strategic significance of the move, as Sony continues to compete with Xbox in the next-generation console market. “This aligns with Sony’s recent focus on expanding its first-party and third-party library,” said a representative from a gaming market research firm, speaking on condition of anonymity. “However, the lack of PlayStation 4 support raises questions about the scope of the port.”

The July release window for the ports was confirmed by multiple outlets, including Hobby Consolas and Eurogamer.es. No additional content or remasters were announced alongside the conversion, though fans have speculated about potential multiplayer updates. A separate statement from Treyarch emphasized that the ports would “maintain the original gameplay experience,” without elaborating on technical adjustments.

Activision’s decision to expand the Black Ops series to PlayStation comes amid broader industry trends toward cross-platform accessibility. The company has previously released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and Call of Duty: Warzone on multiple systems. The PlayStation ports of Black Ops and Black Ops II are scheduled to launch on July 15, according to 3DJuegos. No official word has been released about potential future ports of later Black Ops titles.
