Cal U Women’s Tennis Defeats Seton Hill, Next Faces Fairmont State | Cal Vulcans Athletics
California University of Pennsylvania’s women’s tennis team defeated Seton Hill University 7-0 on Saturday, opening Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play. The match, held at Roadman Park, saw California secure victories through defaults and strong individual performances.
The Vulcans swept the doubles session, securing the doubles point. Senior Leandra Guldimann and freshman Sofia Rodriguez won 6-0 at the first slot, while senior Diletta Maria Mungo and sophomore Garance Laforet posted a 6-2 win at third doubles. Cal also recorded a default win at the third position.
In singles play, California continued its dominance. The Vulcans secured two victories by default before Mungo clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles. Freshman Fernanda Sandoval Martinez followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the third position, and Guldimann added a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles. Junior Lilli Schreiber closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the fourth slot.
California (8-6, 1-0) has won the last four matches against Seton Hill, Saturday’s contest featuring a limited lineup for the latter. The Vulcans will continue their homestand on Sunday, March 22, facing Fairmont State in a non-conference match scheduled for 12 p.m.
Fairmont State University is also scheduled to play the University of Charleston on Monday, March 24, at 5:30 p.m., following their match against California. The Fairmont State baseball team split a doubleheader against West Virginia State on Saturday, March 21, with the second game resulting in a 4-3 loss. Their next game is scheduled for Sunday, March 22, at 2:30 p.m. Against the University of Charleston.
