CA-47 Race: Vote Split Concerns as New Candidate Enters Primary

March 21, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

IRVINE, CA – A late entry into California’s 47th Congressional District race has sparked a warning from the campaign of Eric J. Troutman that a vote split among Republicans could benefit incumbent Democrat Dave Min in the June 2 primary.

On March 12, Troutman’s campaign issued a statement asserting that Jenny Rae Le Roux, who filed to run at the deadline, could siphon votes away from Troutman, ultimately aiding Min’s bid for reelection. “Every vote for Jenny in the primary is a vote for Dave Min. Period,” Troutman said in the statement, distributed by Access Newswire.

Le Roux’s candidacy comes after a previous unsuccessful run for governor in 2022, where she garnered less than 4% of the vote. The Troutman campaign characterized her as a “MAGA extremist” with “no legitimate chance” of defeating Min in November, but argued her presence in the primary could weaken Troutman’s position.

The district, encompassing Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach, has been reshaped by Proposition 50, which replaced commission-drawn maps with legislature-drawn maps for the 2026–2030 cycles. Analysts have described the redrawing as favoring Democrats, with the new version of CA-47 having voted for Harris by 10 points, according to the Cook Political Report.

Troutman’s campaign also pointed to what they claim is a lack of media coverage, alleging “mainstream media fear” prevents outlets from covering his independent bid. NewsBlaze reported earlier this year that Google searches for Troutman-related terms on the Orange County Register website returned no results, and a request for comment from the Register regarding its coverage criteria went unanswered.

The Le Roux campaign dismissed the vote-split claim in an email to NewsBlaze, stating that Min has shifted from campaigning as a moderate to governing as a progressive and urging Republicans to unite behind her candidacy. The Min campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

The late entry of Le Roux adds another layer of complexity to the race in a district significantly altered by Proposition 50, which will head into effect after the November 2026 election. The Troutman campaign maintains that the current situation creates a clear risk of a divided Republican vote, ultimately benefiting Min.
