Cougars Secure Road Victory, Remain Undefeated
BYU continued its strong start to the 2025 season wiht a decisive 34-13 victory over East Carolina on saturday night, marking their first road win of the year. This win extends BYUS winning streak to three games, mirroring their starts to the previous two seasons.
Evan Johnson Shines on Defense
BYU cornerback Evan Johnson delivered a game-changing performance against the pirates. He intercepted East Carolina quarterback Katin Houser twice, once in the end zone to prevent a touchdown, and returned the second interception four yards for a BYU score.Johnson also contributed six tackles and a pass breakup, solidifying his claim as a top cornerback for the cougars.
Dominant Defensive Performance
The BYU defense continued to impress, holding East Carolina to just 13 points – significantly below their season average of 37 points per game. While the Cougars conceded their first touchdown of the season after over 11 quarters and 171 minutes of play, their overall performance was outstanding. jack Kelly recorded two sacks,Isaiah Glasker added two tackles for loss,and the team limited ECU to 3.4 yards per carry while effectively containing their passing attack. BYU’s defense proved it can be difficult for any offense.
Bachmeier Demonstrates Growth on the Road
True freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier navigated his first true road test successfully. After a slower first half, Bachmeier rebounded to deliver his most promising performance to date. He completed 18 of 25 passes (72%) for a career-high 246 yards and a touchdown, adding 26 rushing yards and another score. Notably, Bachmeier was not sacked and has yet to commit a turnover in three games, demonstrating meaningful growth in a challenging environment as the Cougars prepare for Big 12 play.
