Buy King: Release Date, Cast & News on the Netflix K-Drama

March 22, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Filming is set to begin in April 2026 for “Buy King,” a new Netflix K-drama poised to offer a glimpse into the world of South Korea’s wealthiest families and the power struggles within them. The series, formerly known as “Viking,” will star Ju Ji-hoon in the lead role, confirmed by multiple sources.

The ten-episode drama centers on the “hidden family wars of Korean chaebols,” according to a synopsis sourced from MyDramaList. It will explore the complex dynamics and fierce competition among family members vying for control of multi-billion-dollar conglomerates. The series arrives at a time of increasing public and governmental scrutiny of South Korea’s chaebols, family-controlled businesses that have long dominated the nation’s economy.

Ju Ji-hoon will portray Han Tae Jun, described as a character who demonstrates “no mercy in the face of success and power.” The actor reportedly turned down a role in a remake of “Inside Men” to take on the part, signaling his commitment to the project. He has previously appeared in several popular Netflix series, including “Kingdom,” “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,” and “Hyena.”

The series is directed by Jo Sung-hee, known for directing Netflix’s first Korean sci-fi blockbuster, “Space Sweepers.” The screenplay is penned by Lee Shin-ho, the writer behind the thriller “The Chaser” and the action-comedy “My Mighty Princess.” This creative pairing suggests a blend of suspenseful plotting and emotional depth, according to industry observers.

Production is expected to wrap up by October 2026, with a potential release date anticipated by mid-2027. While the exact episode length has not yet been announced, the trailer is expected to be released around the end of 2026, following Netflix’s typical promotional timeline.

Ju Ji-hoon, born May 16, 1982, began his career as a model in 2003, working with brands such as Calvin Klein, Reebok, and Levi’s. He gained widespread recognition with his debut in the 2006 television drama “Princess Hours.” He received the Best Actor award and Artist of the Year at the 2018 Asia Artist Awards, and was honored with the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards in 2025.

“Buy King” promises to delve into the often-opaque world of Korean chaebols, a topic of increasing national conversation regarding wealth inequality, corporate governance, and economic competition.
