NRM Gears Up for Major Rally in Kassanda, Aiming to Bolster Support in Buganda
Kassanda district is preparing to host a major rally this Sunday, spearheaded by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as part of a wider mobilisation drive to strengthen support for President Yoweri Museveni in the buganda region. The event, expected to draw over 40,000 attendees,is being viewed as a key test of the NRM’s resurgence in a region where opposition parties have made gains.
The rally will feature prominent NRM figures including Woman MP Atukunda, Drake Sembusi, the party’s flagbearer for LC5 Chairman, and Dr. Michael Bukenya, the NRM District Chairman. Security will be provided by the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) and his deputy to ensure a peaceful event.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mike Ssegawa emphasized the rally’s importance, stating, “Kassanda is ready to show its support for President museveni. This rally is not just about politics; it is about demonstrating unity and building momentum for growth programs like the parish Development Model, which are already transforming livelihoods in our communities.”
Dr. Bukenya echoed this sentiment, adding, “This rally is Kassanda’s chance to prove that NRM is still the people’s choice. We are mobilising from the grassroots, parish by parish, so that when the time comes, Kassanda will deliver overwhelming support for President Museveni and our flagbearers.”
organisers have pledged comprehensive mobilisation efforts across every parish and village, aiming to surpass attendance numbers from a recent rally held in Mukono.
To attract a large crowd, particularly the youth who comprise over 60% of Kassanda’s population, the rally will feature performances by popular musicians including Alien Skin,Stabua Natooro, and Princess Amira. Organisers believe music will be instrumental in engaging first-time voters and young people.
The event will also serve as a platform to showcase the impact of government programs in Kassanda. As its rollout, the Parish Development Model (PDM) has disbursed over UGX 20 billion to the district, funding household income projects in agriculture, small-scale trade, and cooperative savings – key sectors of Kassanda’s economy. Local leaders are expected to highlight these successes.
The Nalutuntu rally is being closely watched as a barometer of the NRM’s ability to regain ground in Buganda ahead of the 2026 elections. Organisers view the event as a defining moment in their efforts to consolidate support and secure victory in the region. Those with community stories or opinions to share are encouraged to contact Watchdog Uganda at editorial@watchdoguganda.com.
