BU Defeats Loyola Maryland 4-1 in Dominant Soccer Win

BOSTON, MA – The Boston University men’s soccer team showcased its offensive firepower, defeating Loyola Maryland 4-1 Wednesday evening at Nickerson Field.A dominant performance fueled by multiple Terriers‌ finding the back of the net propelled BU to ⁢its third consecutive⁢ win and a four-game unbeaten streak.

The Terriers’ depth was on full display, with goals ⁢from Marco Di Blasio (two), Eitan Otero, and Toti⁢ Petrica. Di Blasio now leads the team with four⁤ goals on the season, while Petrica recorded a goal‍ and an assist, marking his third three-point performance⁤ of the year and bringing his season⁤ point total to 11 (3 goals,⁤ 5 assists). DeLaMater contributed a career-high two assists.

BU initially took the lead before Loyola Maryland equalized.​ Petrica retook the lead for the Terriers 12 minutes later, blasting a 30-yard shot ⁤that deflected off the Loyola goalkeeper, Van der Walt.​ With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Petrica scored ‌again, capitalizing on a throw-in from Giuseppe Bagnato.

Loyola earned a corner kick early in the second half, but BU goalkeeper Sheraz Saadat made a diving ⁤save to deny richie Nichols’ shot attempt. At 54:30, Petrica intercepted⁢ a pass and set up Di Blasio for his second goal of the game. Both​ goalkeepers continued to⁣ make key saves, with Saadat recording three and Van der Walt totaling four, as BU maintained ⁤its 4-1 advantage.

The Terriers now stand ⁤at 6-5-4 with ⁢a 3-0-1 record during their current unbeaten stretch. This victory breaks the series deadlock against Loyola, representing the most goals scored in a matchup between the two programs.

BU⁣ returns to action⁣ on Friday, October 10, hosting ‍Colgate at​ 6 p.m. at Nickerson Field. The Terriers lead the all-time series against Colgate 11-5-3. ⁢The‌ teams have met in ​the Patriot League semifinals the last two years, with Colgate ‌winning ‌in ⁣2024 and BU prevailing in 2023.
