Flamengo striker Bruno Henrique Faces Potential Suspension Amidst Betting Probe
Flamengo’s star striker, Bruno Henrique, is under examination for alleged involvement in a betting scheme, perhaps leading to a meaningful sports punishment. The Brazilian Sports Justice Code (CBJD) has recommended a complaint against Henrique under Article 243, wich addresses actions deliberately harmful to one’s team. If found guilty, Henrique could face a suspension ranging from three to six months and a fine. The possibility of a preventive removal from play is also being considered.
The investigation, which has already seen one individual,Douglas Ribeiro Pina Barcelos (known as “dopô”),reach a non-prosecution agreement with the Public Prosecution Service,is examining the involvement of several others. Barcelos, reportedly close to Claudinei, who is also under investigation and a friend of Bruno henrique’s brother, Wander Nunes Júnior, allegedly placed a bet of R$350 on Henrique receiving a yellow card, anticipating a return of R$1,050. Barcelos confessed to the allegations as part of his agreement with the prosecution.
Wander Nunes Júnior, a former footballer himself, is also being scrutinized by the STJD. The Public Prosecution Service has indicated that all other individuals involved in the case, with the exception of Bruno Henrique and Wander Nunes, were offered similar agreements but declined. The STJD is currently assessing whether to report additional individuals as the investigation continues.
