Bruce willis’s Wife Links Early Symptoms to On-set Experiences, Dementia Diagnosis
Emma Heming Willis, wife of actor Bruce Willis, revealed in her book Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey that early signs of her husband’s frontotemporal dementia (DFT) were initially dismissed as aging, but later recognized as critical indicators of a serious condition. These included a growing disconnect during family events, the return of a childhood stutter, and a noticeable loss of empathy.
Heming Willis detailed that her husband unknowingly experienced early symptoms that may have been exacerbated by his work. She expressed regret that she hadn’t been aware of the DFT’s early warning signs sooner, suggesting she might have altered his work commitments.
Willis was initially diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, later confirmed to be DFT a year later. Since then, Heming Willis has become a primary caregiver and global advocate for raising awareness about the disease, emphasizing the importance of early detection.
Recently, Willis was moved to a specialized care facility with permanent medical support, a decision Heming Willis described as complex but necessary to protect the emotional well-being of thier daughters, Mabel (13) and Evelyn (11), and also his other children.
