Bruce Pearl Announces departure as Auburn Head Basketball Coach
Auburn Head Basketball Coach bruce Pearl announced his resignation after eleven seasons leading the program, citing a desire to step aside after nearly 50 years in coaching. Pearl expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to coach at Auburn, describing it as “the privilege of my life.” He highlighted the program’s growth, championship wins, the creation of a strong home-court advantage, community investment, adn the development of student-athletes, built on the principles of faith, family, and passion. He stated his hope that he has made Auburn proud.
Pearl acknowledged the crucial role of his players and staff in the program’s success, thanking them for thier dedication and hard work. He also expressed appreciation for the support of Auburn’s university management, athletic administration, the Board of Trustees, and specifically named former administrators Jay Jacobs and Jay Gogue, and also current leaders Dr.Chris Roberts and John Cohen. He and his wife, Brandy, intend to remain involved with the Auburn family in a new capacity.
Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen lauded Pearl’s five decades of impact on college basketball, emphasizing his success in developing student-athletes and impacting lives. He specifically noted Pearl’s transformative effect on the Auburn program, bringing championships and pride through ”relentless toughness and determination.” Cohen observed Pearl’s dedication to his players, both on and off the court, and his commitment to instilling the values of an “Auburn man.” He anticipates continued contributions from Bruce and Brandy to the Auburn community.
Auburn University President Dr. Chris Roberts recalled pearl’s confident prediction of championships upon his arrival in 2014, noting that Pearl delivered on that promise and brought national recognition to the program. He expressed gratitude for Pearl’s tireless work and dedication to Auburn University and its student-athletes, and wished him and Brandy well in their next chapter, welcoming their continued involvement in the Auburn community.
