Bruce Blakeman Links Kathy Hochul to Zohran Mamdani in New Campaign Mailers
Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman launched a targeted campaign mailer across suburban Westchester County linking Democratic incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. According to reporting by the New York Post, the campaign literature accuses Governor Hochul of utilizing state taxpayer dollars to subsidize socialist policies and drive up household expenses for suburban residents outside New York City.
Suburban Targeting and the Fiscal Claims in Blakeman Mailers
A mailer acquired and analyzed by the New York Post features a worried-looking couple reviewing financial bills alongside images of Governor Hochul and Mayor Mamdani, paired with the slogan, “Say No to Socialism. Say No to Hochul and Mamdani.”
The mailer text states that Westchester households are facing mounting financial pressure due to state-level budgetary choices. “You struggle to afford groceries, gas, and rent but Hochul spent nearly 5 billion dollars of your tax money on illegal migrants and Mamdani’s socialist wish list,” the document states. The campaign literature further asserts that property taxes, electricity costs, and insurance premiums have risen significantly as a direct result of these administrative priorities.
Budgetary Friction Over New York City Deficits and Child Care
The political clash centers heavily on fiscal allocations approved in the recent state budget. Governor Hochul has publicly defended her administration’s decision to provide state backing and legislative actions aimed at helping Mayor Mamdani close New York City’s multi-billion-dollar budget deficit, which totals roughly $8 billion over a two-year period. State measures included permitting the city to impose a new pied-a-terre tax targeting luxury second homes, alongside direct state funding injections.

Furthermore, the state budget incorporated financial support for Mayor Mamdani’s universal child care program designed for 2-year-olds.
The Counter-Attack: Tying Blakeman to National Economic Policies
The deployment of Mayor Mamdani as a political centerpiece by the Blakeman campaign follows aggressive pushback from the Hochul camp.
Hochul campaign spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki criticized the Blakeman mailers, claiming the Republican candidate committed a strategic gaffe by blaming the governor for surging gas prices. Radulovacki attributed fuel spikes instead to a pre-emptive war with Iran under Trump’s policy sphere, stating, “New Yorkers want a governor who takes on Trump’s terrible economic policies and puts money back in pockets, and they’ve got one in Governor Hochul.”
Radulovacki also pointed out that Blakeman defended the Iran conflict despite conceding it would trigger higher energy costs. “This is a war that had to be fought,” Blakeman countered in statements reported by the New York Post, adding that short-term economic pain would yield long-term geopolitical gain. Additionally, the Hochul campaign criticized Blakeman for opposing state tariff relief for farmers, utility bill moratoriums designed to curb data center energy spikes, and statewide family energy rebate checks.
