deion Sanders revealed Tuesday he underwent an aspiration thrombectomy to remove blood clots from his popliteal and tibial arteries, but remained focused on his team and family, including discussing the recent acquisition of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco by the Cleveland Browns with his son, Shedeur.
Sanders, 58, stated he expects a quick recovery, saying, “I’m going to be all right…Prayerfully, I’ll be right back tomorrow because I don’t miss practice. I don’t plan on doing such.” This latest procedure follows previous blood clot issues in 2021, resulting in the amputation of two toes on his left foot, and further procedures in 2023. He also recently recovered from bladder cancer, requiring doctors to reconstruct a bladder using a section of his intestine.
Despite his health challenges, Sanders shared that he and his son, Shedeur, discussed the Browns’ trade for Flacco. According to Sanders, Shedeur remarked, “Dad, they got Joe Flacco.” Sanders relayed this anecdote while emphasizing his faith, stating, “I trust God with all my heart and all my soul and all my mind.”
Sanders’ son,Shilo, also recently navigated NFL team changes, briefly being with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being cut. Sanders shielded both his sons from the full details of his health battles while they were establishing themselves professionally.
