While a highly anticipated individual matchup between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka won’t materialize, the event features compelling team contests between LIV Golf’s top squads.
DeChambeau’s Crushers GC are aiming to defend their 2023 Team Championship title, secured with a dominant performance last year. The tournament format begins with team match play semi-finals on Saturday, culminating in a stroke-play final on Sunday to determine the overall champion.
The rivalry between DeChambeau and Koepka has been a prominent storyline in recent golf history. Their contentious relationship reached a peak with “The Match” in November 2021, where Koepka defeated DeChambeau 4&3.
More recently, the two players have publicly mended fences, even teaming up to represent a combined PGA Tour/LIV Golf side against Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. However, Scheffler and McIlroy won that exhibition match.
The first semi-final match will pit Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII GC against Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC. The second semi-final will feature Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC against Dean Burmester’s Stinger GC.
The winning teams from Saturday’s semi-finals will advance to Sunday’s stroke-play final, where they will compete for the Team Championship trophy and the associated prize money. The LIV Golf Team Championship represents a meaningful event in the league’s schedule, showcasing the competitive depth and team dynamics within LIV Golf.
