New Haven Digs Out After Significant Snowstorm

New Haven, Connecticut is currently focused on cleanup efforts following a substantial snowstorm that impacted the region. Throughout the day, News 8’s Preston stober has been following the storm’s progress and the city’s response. WTNH News 8 has been providing continuous coverage, detailing road closures, power outages, and the work of snow removal crews.

The storm brought significant snowfall accumulation, creating hazardous travel conditions. City officials urged residents to stay off the roads to allow plows and emergency vehicles to operate effectively. Many schools and businesses closed for the day,and public transportation faced delays and cancellations.

Snow plow drivers worked tirelessly to clear major roadways and residential streets. The city’s Department of Public Works deployed it’s full fleet of equipment, prioritizing critical routes like hospitals and emergency service access points. challenges included drifting snow and extremely cold temperatures, which impacted the effectiveness of salt and othre de-icing agents.

Power outages were reported across New haven County. PowerOutage.us is tracking outages in real-time, showing the number of customers affected and estimated restoration times. Utility companies are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, but residents are advised to prepare for potentially extended outages.
