Brewers’ Pat Murphy wins second straight NL Manager of the Year award

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy⁣ has ⁤been named‍ the National League Manager of the ​Year for the second consecutive ‌season, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ‌announced Monday. Murphy ⁤secured the honor after guiding⁣ the Brewers to​ a 92-70​ record and a National League Central Division title in 2023, building upon his interim success from the prior year.

Murphy initially took the helm ​mid-season in 2022⁢ following ⁣Craig Counsell’s departure, leading Milwaukee⁤ to a surprising playoff berth. this year’s⁢ award recognizes his ability to sustain winning​ baseball and navigate a full season as the team’s official manager. The award is significant for the Brewers‌ organization, solidifying a period of consistent contention, and for Murphy, cementing his reputation as one of baseball’s most effective leaders. ‍

The voting results,compiled from ballots submitted‌ by 32 members of the BBWAA,revealed a clear preference for Murphy. He received 18 first-place votes, totaling 104 points. Arizona Diamondbacks‍ manager Torey Lovullo finished second with 83 points, and Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker placed third with 58 points.

A breakdown of ⁣the ballots shows consistent recognition of Murphy’s impact.Justin Guerriero of the ‍Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, John Maffei of the San ⁣Diego Union-Tribune, and Savannah⁣ McCann of Baseball America​ were among those who placed⁢ murphy first on their ballots. Other managers receiving votes included Rob Thomson,Craig Counsell,and Terry Francona.
