For many supporters contributing to the mlb.com collection, the milestone stirred long-held memories of parents and grandparents who followed the franchise through decades of heartbreak. One fan recalled attending games at County Stadium with a mother who passed away unexpectedly in November 2017, just months before the team’s Game 7 loss in the 2018 NLCS. Another submission featured online came from a 41-year-old fan reflecting on an Iowa-born grandfather born in 1919 who never saw a Cubs World Series victory, noting how baseball traditions pass steadily through the radio broadcast voice of Bob Uecker.
Hospital Rooms and Backyard Sheds Frame October Memories
The 2026 postseason also intersected with major life milestones for families dealing with intense medical and personal trials. William from Greenfield shared with mlb.com that his newborn son, Owen, spent weeks in the hospital due to birth complications before finally coming home on October 13, just in time for the NLCS. Watching the clinching games from a hospital room alongside medical staff at Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Wisconsin turned an already unforgettable month into a profound family milestone.
