Kras Mat, founded by Mélodie Carré and Rébecca Saillard, both hailing from the Côtes-d’Armor region of Brittany, has transformed the former Chabrol restaurant into a charming haven of Breton gastronomy. The pair has meticulously preserved the building’s beautiful Art Nouveau interior, creating a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing dining surroundings.
The focus at Kras Mat extends beyond simply serving delicious pancakes. The restaurant prides itself on the quality and provenance of its ingredients, clearly stating their origins on the menu. Flour sourced from the Moulin de Quincampoix in Ille-et-Vilaine, France, and andouille directly from Dinan, Brittany, are just two examples of the commitment to authentic regional products.
The classic pancake with butter and lemon (€5.80) – boasting a delightfully softer texture – has proven particularly popular, fully delivering on its promise of a customary Breton experience.But the culinary experience doesn’t stop there.
Carré and Saillard have also curated an remarkable drinks menu, complementing their pancakes with a selection of Breton ciders alongside local Belgian gems.Patrons can enjoy the Brut (€32) from Atelier Constant-Berger in Herve, expertly brewed coffee (€2.50 for an espresso) from Winok – a micro-roaster conveniently located just across the street – beers from Brasserie de la mule (€6), and the refreshing lemonades from Atelier Cuarenta (€5.50).
