Brentford Players Injured Helping Victim of Alleged Racist Attack
Two Brentford Football Club players intervened to assist a man who was allegedly the victim of a racially motivated assault in southwest London on Saturday night, according to reports. The incident occurred shortly after Brentford’s goalless draw against Leeds United.
The players, whose identities have not been released, were reportedly returning home around 2:00 AM when they witnessed the attack in the Richmond area. They helped de-escalate the situation until police arrived, The Telegraph reported. Witnesses stated the players were covered in blood despite sustaining only minor injuries.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed officers responded to a report of an assault on Queen’s Road, Richmond, at approximately 02:00 on Sunday, March 22nd. “Officers attended and engaged with the victim. Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time,” the spokesperson said.
The match against Leeds United was Brentford’s final fixture before the international break, allowing some players to travel independently from Elland Road. Brentford currently occupies the seventh position in the Premier League table, three points behind Liverpool and two points behind Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification, a notable achievement given pre-season expectations.
