BROOKSVILLE, FL – Hernando High School’s annual wrestling tournament will now be known as the Windham Rotunda Memorial Invitational, the school’s Wrestling Club announced. The renaming honors Rotunda, known professionally as Bray wyatt, who passed away August 24, 2023, at the age of 36 following a heart attack.
The December 5-6 tournament, previously the Kiwanis Invitational, will also feature an annual scholarship established in Rotunda’s name. The scholarship will be awarded to one senior wrestler each year before the tournament finals.
Wyatt attended Hernando High School, competing in both wrestling and football. David Pritz, the current Wrestling Club supervisor and a former teammate of Rotunda’s, announced the changes.
“With the blessing of the rotunda Family and Brooksville Kiwanis we are changing the name of the long lasting Kiwanis Invitational to the Windham Rotunda Memorial Invitational,” Pritz stated. “We also are creating a scholarship fund in his name that will be presented to one senior wrestler every year before the finals of the tournament. This will be our 44th year hosting one of the most established high school wrestling tournaments in the state of Florida. Windham was my teammate and one of the most memorable athletes to ever wear the Purple and gold. I hope this can be a small tribute to his lasting legacy. He is a true legend and someone we will never forget.”
News of the honor brought emotion to the Rotunda family. Windham’s sister, Mika, shared the announcement with their father, WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda, and both were moved to tears. Rotunda is currently recovering in a rehabilitation center after suffering a heart attack on September 20, spending a week in a coma and a month in the hospital, according to Mika.
