Braves Sign Heim to 1-Year Contract: Catching Depth Added

February 10, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The Atlanta Braves have signed catcher Jonah Heim to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday. Heim joins the Braves’ catching corps as a non-roster invitee to spring training, according to multiple reports.

Heim, 28, previously played for the Texas Rangers, where he was the starting catcher during their 2023 World Series run. Although his role with the Rangers diminished in 2024, he still appeared in 82 games, batting .232 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs.

The move adds depth to a Braves’ catching position that already includes Sean Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud. Murphy is expected to remain the primary catcher, but the addition of Heim provides insurance and competition.

Heim’s signing was first reported by MLB.com and subsequently confirmed by CBS Sports, RotoWire, and Battery Power. The one-year contract allows the Braves to evaluate Heim’s performance with the potential for a longer-term commitment.

The Braves start spring training later this month in North Port, Florida.
