Bradford Regional Medical Center to Close Services in 2026 | BRMC Closure News

February 18, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) in Bradford, Pennsylvania, will close its inpatient, emergency, and long-term care services by mid-2026, pending approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Kaleida Health announced this week.

The closure decision, formalized with a notice submitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, stems from sustained financial losses attributed to a declining regional population and a “severely reduced patient census,” according to a statement released by Kaleida Health. The medical center has experienced approximately $10 million in annual losses since 2021.

Following the closure of these core services, BRMC will transition to an ambulatory/outpatient care model, focusing on primary and specialty care clinics. This shift is part of a larger $200 million strategic plan launched by Kaleida Health last year, designed to evaluate and adapt to changing healthcare needs and financial pressures.

“Federal funding cuts and long-standing financial pressures across the healthcare industry have accelerated the challenges we face and the decisions we are considering or have already made,” Kaleida Health stated. “This $200 million plan gives us the opportunity to evaluate and reimagine how and where we provide the care and services our communities need most while doing so in the most efficient and effective way.”

The impending closure leaves McKean County, Pennsylvania, with only 14 inpatient beds to serve a population of approximately 35,000 residents, raising concerns about access to critical care services in the region.

Kaleida Health is awaiting a response from the Pennsylvania Department of Health regarding the closure notice.
