BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Bolsters Worker Housing Initiatives
Jakarta – The Indonesian Workers social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) is actively supporting workers’ housing needs through concrete programs focused on home construction and renovation. Housing and human Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait highlighted the agency’s meaningful commitment, noting that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan assisted 567 homes in 2022, 494 units in 2023, and 390 units as of June 2024. These efforts directly contribute to the national target of providing three million homes.
A strategic collaboration is underway between the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements (PKP) and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to enhance decent housing provisions for Indonesian workers by synergizing national housing programs. This collaboration will be formalized through a Memorandum of understanding (MoU), focusing on integrating the Housing Financing liquidity Facility (FLPP) program for Low-Income Communities (MBR) with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s Additional Service Benefits (MLT) program.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan President Director Pramudya Iriawan Buntoro affirmed the agency’s full support, emphasizing the utilization of its extensive participant data to identify workers in need of housing and facilitate their access to suitable financing. “With 39.3 million participants,we have a strong database to target FLPP and MLT programs more effectively. This is our real contribution to supporting workers’ welfare,” Buntoro stated.
BP Tapera Commissioner Heru Pudyo Nugroho reported that the FLPP scheme has already facilitated the distribution of 134,400 houses, with private sector workers, who are predominantly BPJS Ketenagakerjaan members, accounting for 76 percent of these beneficiaries.
the initiative has also garnered support from the housing industry. Joko Suranto, Chairman of the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI), expressed the association’s readiness to offer incentives, such as down payment waivers, for workers seeking subsidized housing.”This concrete step will be facilitated by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan together with the Ministry of PKP through direct socialization to companies,so workers can more easily access decent housing,” Suranto added.
This cross-sector collaboration is anticipated to accelerate the achievement of the national three-million-home target and significantly improve access to affordable and decent housing for workers across Indonesia.
