Boring Company Tunneling⁣ Halted ‍in ⁣Las vegas Following ‌Worker injury

Las‌ Vegas, NV ⁢ – Tunneling operations at a Boring Company construction site in Las⁤ Vegas ‌have been temporarily suspended after a⁤ worker sustained ⁤a ”crushing injury” on⁤ Tuesday, according to a Nevada‌ OSHA inquiry. The incident raises renewed scrutiny of safety protocols ⁢at ⁢the Elon ⁢Musk-owned ‍infrastructure firm, which has been expanding its tunnel network beneath the city.

The injured worker, ‍whose name has not been released, was ‍reportedly involved in an incident while working on a tunnel⁣ intended to run below Las ⁢Vegas Boulevard. Nevada ⁣OSHA confirmed the injury and initiated a probe into the circumstances surrounding ‌it.‍ The halt in construction impacts the project’s timeline,‍ which aims to connect various points ⁤within the city limits.

this incident⁣ follows⁤ previous safety concerns regarding The Boring Company’s Las Vegas projects.⁤ In‍ early 2024, regulators briefly shut⁢ down the Las Vegas Monorail after Boring Company workers dug too close to its foundation while ‌constructing ⁢a tunnel to the Wynn and Encore resorts. ⁤Following Fortune’s ‍reporting on that incident, the‌ Las Vegas ⁢Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) increased its oversight of the⁤ company’s work, appointing an ‌employee to directly supervise safety measures. the LVCVA CEO ⁣stated a few weeks⁣ ago that there had been⁢ no major safety incidents reported since the increased⁢ oversight.

the Boring Company has recently been testing⁣ self-driving Tesla vehicles, with safety drivers present, within the tunnels under the⁤ Las vegas Convention Center. The company is also preparing for⁢ another ⁤tunnel system⁣ in nashville, while still awaiting city permits to continue construction on the Las Vegas Boulevard ⁣project.

The Boring Company has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the latest incident.
