the Federal Police (PF) has a low expectation for the content of a pen drive seized from former President Jair Bolsonaro. The device was discovered hidden in a bathroom at his residence.
Investigators familiar with the case do not anticipate the pen drive yielding meaningful new details for their inquiry, as initial examinations reveal minimal content.
A data extraction process for the pen drive took five hours at the National Institute of Criminalistics last Friday, February 18. A Custody Chain record has been established for the item.
The report from this extraction is now with the investigative team and will undergo analysis starting Monday, February 21.
The primary focus of the investigation remains on former President Bolsonaro’s cell phone, also seized during the operation. Investigators are actively analyzing the device for messages and photos.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme court (STF) has authorized the analysis of the cell phone.
In his decision, Moraes stated that Bolsonaro, along with his son Eduardo Bolsonaro, “is acting willfully and consciously acting illicitly, with the purpose of trying to submit the operation of the Supreme Court to the sieve of another foreign state.”
In addition to electronic monitoring, the former president is prohibited from using social media and communicating with foreign ambassadors, diplomats, and other individuals involved in the investigation. He is also subject to home detention during nights and weekends.
following the search, former President Jair Bolsonaro asserted that he is being “humiliated” and is the target of “political persecution.”
“I am being persecuted. There is nothing concrete. The Attorney General’s Office has gone further,” Bolsonaro stated, referring to the imposed precautionary measures.
When questioned about the pen drive found in his bathroom, Bolsonaro responded, “Pen Drive? I don’t know!” He also confirmed the presence of $14,000 in cash at his residence, explaining, “I always kept dollars at home. It’s normal.”
