Bolivia Boosts Measles Vaccinations Amidst National Health Emergency

Bolivia has administered 745,161 doses of the measles vaccine as of Sunday, July 27, according to minister of Health and Sports, Maria Renée Castro. The government has secured 1,050,000 doses for distribution across the country’s nine departments and is in the process of acquiring an additional 2 million doses to combat the ongoing national health emergency due to measles.

Minister Castro urged parents to take their children to vaccination centers to ensure immunization. She noted that the acquisition of the additional doses is being prioritized by the laboratory due to similar situations in other countries.

As of the latest report, Bolivia has confirmed a total of 175 measles cases across eight departments. Santa Cruz remains the epicenter of the outbreak, with 147 confirmed cases. Other departments with confirmed cases include La Paz (11), Potosí (5), cochabamba (3), Chuquisaca (3), Beni (3), Oruro (2), and pando (1). The department of Tarija has not reported any cases of the disease to date.
