Boise Firefighters to Conduct Large-Scale Training at Vacant Boise towne Square Mall

Boise firefighters will utilize the vacant Boise Towne Square Mall for intensive, live-fire training exercises from January 26 through February 6, 2026. This training provides a unique opportunity for crews to practice commercial fire suppression and rescue techniques in a realistic,multi-story environment.

The training will focus on several key areas, including search and rescue operations, fire attack strategies, ventilation techniques, and coordinated teamwork. The large scale of the mall allows firefighters to simulate complex scenarios that are difficult to replicate in conventional training facilities. This includes navigating confined spaces, dealing with multiple fire locations, and managing a large number of potential victims.

“this is an invaluable training opportunity for our firefighters,” said a spokesperson for the Boise Fire department.“The mall’s layout presents a challenging and realistic environment that will help us refine our skills and ensure we are prepared to respond effectively to any emergency.”

The Boise Fire department emphasizes that all training will be conducted under strict safety protocols, with experienced instructors overseeing all activities. Smoke will be visible during the exercises, but officials assure the public that it is non-toxic and part of the controlled training environment. Residents in the surrounding area may notice increased fire department activity during this period.

The Boise Towne Square Mall has been vacant as 2023 ,and the Fire department coordinated with the property owners to secure the space for this crucial training exercise. using the vacant structure avoids disrupting businesses or endangering the public during the training.

the Boise Fire Department regularly conducts training exercises to maintain a high level of readiness and ensure the safety of the community. This particular training event is expected to significantly enhance the department’s capabilities in responding to large-scale commercial fires.
