COLUMBUS, Ohio – Bob Maggs, a former All-Big Ten center for Ohio State and father of current Buckeyes walk-on quarterback Mason Maggs, has died unexpectedly. he was 74.
Maggs, who played for the Buckeyes from 1968-1970, earned All-Big Ten honors as a senior. After his football career, he worked in sales at Mueller Roofing Distributors. According to his obituary, he enjoyed golfing, football, being by the water, and spending time with family and friends.
His son,Mason Maggs,is a senior quarterback in his fourth year with the Ohio state program,having joined the team during the summer before the 2022 season. He has one career carry for 3 yards.
The Ohio state football program is also mourning the recent passing of former star Nick Mangold, who died Saturday night due to complications from kidney disease.
Head coach Ryan Day announced during a press conference this week that both Maggs and Mangold will be honored with a moment of silence during Saturday’s game against penn State. “I just want to start off by recognizing the fact that we lost a couple of members of the Ohio State football family this week – nick Mangold and bob Maggs both had major impacts on this program,” Day said. “We’re praying for their families to have peace during this time. very, very sad…So just want to let those families know that we’re all thinking about them during this difficult time.”
