One person sustained moderate injuries after a boat exploded at Tauranga Marina in Latest Zealand on Saturday afternoon, authorities reported.

Police responded to the incident after receiving reports of the explosion at approximately 1:35 p.m. Local time, according to a police spokesperson. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Hato Hone St John confirmed that two ambulances and a manager were sent to the marina. A spokesperson for the organization stated that paramedics assessed and treated one patient before transporting them to Tauranga Hospital in a moderate condition.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) responded after being alerted to the fire by another emergency service. However, FENZ reported only “a little bit of smoke” was visible upon arrival, suggesting the fire was quickly contained.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Police have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident or the type of boat involved.

Authorities have not provided an update on the patient’s condition as of Saturday evening.
