Blue Jays to Promote Top Prospect trey Yesavage
TORONTO – The toronto Blue Jays are preparing to promote right-handed pitcher Trey Yesavage, their 2024 first-round draft pick, to the major league roster, according to industry sources. Yesavage is expected to arrive in Toronto Sunday, coinciding wiht the conclusion of the team’s series against the Baltimore Orioles.
While it remains uncertain whether Yesavage will be active for Sunday’s game or Monday’s series opener versus the Tampa bay Rays, the move marks a significant step in the development of the 22-year-old. This season, Yesavage has demonstrated impressive performance across four minor league levels, compiling a 3.12 ERA with 160 strikeouts and 41 walks in 98 innings pitched.
Manager John Schneider is scheduled to address the media Sunday morning, an atypical move as he usually speaks after games on Sundays. Yesavage was originally scheduled to start for Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday but is instead traveling to join the Blue Jays.
Though primarily developed as a starting pitcher, Yesavage has recently pitched in relief, with his last three September appearances coming from the bullpen and none exceeding 54 pitches. This suggests he may initially be utilized as a multi-inning reliever.
Adding Yesavage to the 40-man roster will occupy a spot throughout the offseason, but the Blue jays evidently believe his potential impact justifies the reduced roster flexibility. If Yesavage performs well, he could be a factor in a potential postseason run, pending MLB approval.
