Gausman Shuts Down Astros in Complete Game Victory
TORONTO – Kevin Gausman delivered a dominant performance, pitching a complete game shutout as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Houston Astros 3-0 on Thursday afternoon at Rogers Center. Gausman struck out nine and allowed just six hits and one walk in a masterful outing, securing a crucial win for Toronto as they chase a playoff berth.
The victory halted a two-game skid for the Blue Jays and prevented the Astros from gaining ground in the competitive American League West. With the Seattle Mariners closely trailing, this result keeps Houston’s division lead tenuous. Gausman’s performance was his best of the season, surpassing a six-inning gem against Detroit on June 8, 2024, where he allowed one hit and a walk while striking out 10.
Houston’s Framber Valdez (11-8) struck out six over six innings but allowed four runs on six hits and a walk. Lance McCullers Jr. allowed two runs over two innings of relief.
A key moment in the game came in the first inning when Astros fielders misplayed a pop fly off Astros batter Barger, allowing him to reach second base. Mauricio Dubon scooped up the ball in centre field but had no one to throw to.
Gausman’s only other complete game shutout in his career was a 7-0 win against the Oakland Athletics on June 8, 2024.
the Blue Jays will continue their homestand Friday, opening a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles with Max Scherzer (5-3) on the mound.Dean Kremer (9-10) is scheduled to start for Baltimore.
