Blue Jays Receive Positive Rehab Updates on Pitchers Sandlin,Francis
toronto Blue Jays pitchers Nick sandlin and Bowden Francis are both making encouraging progress in their respective rehab journeys, offering a potential boost to teh team’s pitching depth as the postseason approaches.
Sandlin, sidelined since July 7 with right elbow inflammation and currently on the 60-day injured list, threw a bullpen session Tuesday, according to Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling. The session was described as “OK,” and Sandlin is scheduled for another bullpen in the coming days as he aims to rejoin the team. His throwing program has been temporarily halted twice due to inflammation, requiring injections. Acquired from the Cleveland Guardians in the offseason, the 28-year-old right-hander has a 2.20 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched this season.
Francis, recovering from a right shoulder impingement that landed him on the injured list June 17, is slated to throw one inning of live batting practice Saturday at the Blue jays’ complex in Dunedin. Zwelling reports Francis has progressed well and could become a viable option for the team later in the season. The 29-year-old was projected to be a key part of the rotation this year after posting a stellar 1.53 ERA over the final two months of 2024. However, he struggled in 14 starts this season, compiling a 6.05 ERA and allowing 19 home runs.
