Blue Jays Extend Ross Atkins & John Schneider Through 2031/2026
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider and general manager Ross Atkins both received contract extensions on Monday, securing their positions with the club through the 2028 and 2031 seasons, respectively. The announcements came as the team began spring training in Dunedin, Florida.
Atkins, who was hired in December 2015, signed a five-year deal, extending his tenure with the Blue Jays through 2031. Schneider, who took the helm mid-season in 2022, agreed to a two-year extension, keeping him as manager through 2028. Both executives were previously operating under contracts that were set to expire after the current season, according to the team.
The extensions follow a 2025 season that saw the Blue Jays win their third American League Championship in franchise history, and first since 1993, culminating in a seven-game loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. Toronto finished the regular season with a 94-68 record, earning the American League East title and the best record in the league for the fourth time in team history.
“Ross has done an outstanding job in building a deep foundation with an accomplished Baseball Operations team, best-in-class resources, and a collaborative culture,” said Blue Jays president &. CEO Mark Shapiro in a statement released by the team. “I am a strong supporter of stability and continuity, and Ross continues to make us better.” Shapiro added that he was “extremely confident” Atkins’ leadership would help the team achieve its goal of winning World Series championships.
Under Atkins’ leadership over the past 10 seasons, the Blue Jays have compiled a 777-741 record (.512) and made five postseason appearances (2016, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2025). He is currently the second-longest tenured general manager in franchise history.
Schneider, who was a finalist for the 2025 American League Manager of the Year award, has a 303-257 record (.541) since assuming the managerial role in July 2022 – the fourth-most wins by a Blue Jays manager in franchise history.
“Schneids has been, and will continue to be, an exceptional leader and manager in professional baseball because of his unwavering commitment to players,” Atkins said. “He understands what it takes to build a winning environment and works tirelessly to create exactly that.”
Schneider expressed his excitement about continuing to lead the Blue Jays, stating, “I am ecstatic to continue leading the Blue Jays as we work to bring our incredible fans a championship team. It’s been a privilege to be part of this organization for nearly 25 years, and the work the Blue Jays continue to do excites me every day.” He as well thanked Shapiro, Atkins, and Rogers for their confidence in him.
The Blue Jays’ single-game tickets for the 2026 season are currently on sale, the team announced.
