Local Blood Donor Association Disbands, Donates Remaining Funds to Health Charities

Mauron, Morbihan, France – After decades of supporting volunteer blood donations in the region, the association of volunteer blood donors of Mauron is dissolving and distributing its remaining assets-a total of €4,000-to two local health-focused organizations. The decision comes as the French Blood Establishment (EFS) reorganizes collection sites, shifting donations away from smaller municipalities like Mauron and towards larger centers in Ploërmel, Saint-Méen-le-Grand, and Rennes.

Association president Joseph Jagoudel announced the closure while presenting checks to “Rose boucle” and the “listening and prevention nursing” antenna from the Mauronnais Care centre. “I will certainly be the last president of the association,” he stated. For years, the association facilitated blood drives, welcoming specialized EFS teams comprised of doctors, nurses, and a logistician, preparing venues, providing refreshments, and promoting donations within the community. Collections previously took place in numerous small towns, fostering “kind moments of sharing and exchanges,” according to Jagoudel.

However, donor numbers have steadily declined, leading to a reduction in collection dates in Mauron from four to just two. The EFS reorganization ultimately made continuing operations unsustainable.Despite the closure, Jagoudel encouraged local donors to continue giving blood at the new, centralized locations.

Each of the recipient organizations will receive a €2,000 check. “Rose Boucle,” chaired by Claire Gautier, raises funds for Patplox (supporting cancer patients wiht energy and care assistance), the Eugène Marquis center, and research units, and also organizes the annual “La Mauronnaise” pedestrian event on October 12. The other beneficiary, the Mauronnais Care Center’s nursing antenna, led by Sonia Lameul and Laure terrien, provides health risk prevention services to young people.
