Netflix‘s ‘Black Rabbit’ Fails to Deliver on promising premise, Reviewers Say
A new Netflix series, “Black Rabbit,” starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman, is drawing criticism for its frustratingly underdeveloped characters and convoluted plot. Reviewers note the show attempts a study of loyalty, fraternity, and the corrupting influence of family secrets, but ultimately falls short due to its ambition exceeding its execution.
The review highlights the difficulty in connecting with the central characters, Vince (Bateman) and Jake (Law), finding Vince “selfish and stupid” and Jake’s true nature obscured by constant crisis management. It criticizes the late arrival of meaningful insight into their relationship, rendering any potential resolution unsatisfying. The reviewer states the ending feels inevitable and lacks credible character growth for Vince.
Despite Law’s charisma, the review suggests he is miscast as a “hustling Coney Island boy-made-Manhattan-good.” The series aims to depict Law’s character walking a precarious line between illicit dealings and legitimate success, but becomes “too busy, trying to do too much, and loses the sharp focus it needs.”
“Black Rabbit” is currently available on netflix.
