Despite global economic headwinds,local businesses report robust sales,notably in textiles,gift sets,toys,and electronics.
The surge in Black Friday participation marks a shift in consumer behavior in New Caledonia, traditionally less focused on post-Thanksgiving sales events.This year’s success provides a crucial boost to local retailers as they navigate ongoing economic challenges and anticipate continued demand through the weekend. The extended sales period, running through Sunday, is expected to further amplify the impact on the island’s economy.
“Economically, it’s more captivating because they can do all thier Christmas shopping,” explained one retailer, noting discounts of 20 to 30% on textiles and 20% on gift boxes. “We’re seeing between – 20 and 30% on textiles, 20% on gift sets.”
Shoppers are responding enthusiastically to the deals. One customer at a discount retailer expressed her satisfaction, stating, “It’s my grandson’s birthday and I know exactly were he wanted me to buy his gift.”
