Bison Reports Surging Female Adoption in German Crypto Trading

The share of female crypto traders signing up on the Stuttgart-based platform BISON has more than tripled over a six-year window, according to data released by the firm on October 22, 2026. While women accounted for just seven percent of new clients in 2019, that figure climbed to 23 percent by 2025, according to tz.de reporting.

The Tech TL;DR:

  • BISON reports female new-client acquisition grew from 7% in 2019 to 23% in 2025.
  • Bitcoin remains the top asset across genders, held by 82% of female traders and 76% of male traders.
  • Female investors display a higher tendency toward single-asset holding and long-term buy-and-hold strategies compared to male counterparts.

Women Hold Bitcoin More Frequently than Men

The platform evaluation outlines distinct behavioral gaps between male and female portfolio management styles. Bitcoin commands the highest allocation for both cohorts, securing positions in 82 percent of female portfolios and 76 percent of male portfolios, tz.de reported. Ethereum and XRP follow as secondary holdings, captured in 53 percent and 35 percent of female accounts respectively. However, diversification metrics diverge significantly. Approximately half of female investors traded a single coin over the preceding year, compared to 41 percent of male users. Conversely, 29 percent of women managed three or more distinct digital assets, trailing behind a 36 percent rate for men.

Female Traders Favor Buy-Side Orders over Active Trading

Execution habits also skew differently across demographic lines. Data compiled by BISON indicates that 67 percent of female traders executed strictly buy-side orders over the trailing twelve months, holding assets without executing sell transactions. The equivalent buy-and-hold metric among male users stood at 58 percent, while active trading involving both acquisitions and disposals accounted for 33 percent of women and 42 percent of men. Despite these operational differences, age distribution remains remarkably uniform. Users over the age of 35 comprise 75 percent of female investors and 73 percent of male investors on the platform.

Broader Market Adoption Realities

The platform data contrasts sharply with broader retail adoption metrics across Germany. Citing a separate Statista survey, BISON noted that 23 percent of German men reported holding cryptocurrencies, whereas only 8 percent of women did. Total platform demographics reflect an overall female user base of 18 percent, counting only verified clients who have completed at least one trade and maintain an active balance. “Krypto ist nach wie vor eine Anlageklasse, die überwiegend von Männern genutzt wird,” stated Dr. Ulli Spankowski, CEO and co-founder of BISON, pointing to educational seminars and targeted events designed to lower entry barriers.
