Birigui, Brazil – The Birigui Municipal Health Department conducted a training session on Thursday, February 12, 2026, focused on the clinical and supportive management of dengue fever. The session, held at the Santa Casa de Birigui’s Noble Hall, was led by Dr. Igor Barcellos Precinoti, an infectious disease specialist affiliated with the institution.
The training was designed for physicians working in the city’s Basic Health Units (UBSs) and the Emergency Room. A total of fifteen healthcare professionals participated, according to municipal officials.
The curriculum covered clinical aspects of dengue, criteria for identifying suspected cases, laboratory confirmation procedures, risk classification, and treatment priorities. Participants as well reviewed the “tourniquet test” – a method for assessing capillary fragility – vaccination guidelines, and the characteristics of the four dengue virus serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4). These serotypes are antigenically distinct, meaning infection with one does not provide lasting immunity against the others.
Dr. Precinoti, who also serves as an infectious disease physician for the Epidemiological Surveillance Department of Birigui, emphasized the training’s objective was to prepare medical staff for the appropriate management of suspected or confirmed cases, and to anticipate a potential increase in patient volume during the rainy season. He is also affiliated with the CCIH (Hospital Infection Control Committee) of both Unimed Birigui and Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Birigui, according to his professional profile.
Maria Helena Martins Yazawa, Director of the Department of Epidemiological Surveillance, highlighted the importance of continuous professional development for healthcare teams to ensure safe and high-quality care for the population. Dr. Precinoti also holds a position as a physician specializing in sexually transmitted diseases/AIDS, and is a professor of medicine at Unisalesiano – Auxilium and Fundação Educacional de Penápolis – FUNEPE.
Dr. Precinoti earned his medical degree from the Federal University of the Triângulo Mineiro in 2008, completed a residency in infectious diseases at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Ribeirão Preto Faculty of Medicine – USP in 2013, and obtained a doctorate in Clinical Medicine from USP Ribeirão Preto in 2022. He is also a Medical Reference in Genotyping (MRG) certified by the Ministry of Health.
