Biotech Health Brittany fuels Innovation with €79 Million in Aid
Biotech Health Brittany (BSB), a Breton innovation and technological center, is making notable strides in supporting groundbreaking projects across various sectors. In 2024 alone, BSB backed 135 projects with over €79 million in mobilized aid. These projects range from agricultural biofuels derived from wastewater to sustainable cosmetics produced through wet granulation, and even a verticizing beach system designed for inclusive mobility.
A Hub of Innovation
BSB, chaired by Franck Zal, focuses on seven key markets: eco-industry, agro-industry, health nutrition, cosmetics, biotech pharmacy, medical technologies, and e-health. As an associative organization,it boasts 182 members,75% of whom are companies. Nelly Bernard leads a team of 18 employees who are instrumental in driving these initiatives forward.
In 2024, the BSB team accompanied 135 projects, including 43 new ones. Moreover, they assembled 36 new financing files. The center has also reinforced its actions around the eco-industry and the valuation of biomass by adding two project managers to its team.
Diverse Projects Driving Change
The projects supported by Biotech Health Brittany are incredibly diverse, reflecting the region’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
- Inclusive Mobility: A consortium comprising Ba Group, DK innovation, and Insa Rennes is developing
an innovative and verticizing beach system, alternative to the wheelchair, to promote autonomy and social interactions.
- Health & Nutrition: ELEMENTA and the GETBO LABORATORY are exploring
the effectiveness of flavonoids from citrus fruits in the treatment of venous disorders, with a food supplement.
- Green Cosmetics: Global Beauty Consulting and the University of Rennes are innovating in solid cosmetics by
developing new lasting formulations by humid granulation.
- Advanced Biofuels: Cooperl, the Robillard company, and the ENSCR are collaborating on a project to
transform fat from wastewater treatment into second generation advanced biofuels.
- Therapeutic Potential: The World Roullier Innovation Center and the Concarneau organic station are exploring
sea biomolecules with high therapeutic potential thanks to the eco-extraction of starfish.
Brittany’s Vision
Brittany aims to solidify its position as a leader in nutrition, green chemistry, and the circular economy. By fostering collaboration between research institutions, companies, and regional stakeholders, BSB is playing a crucial role in realizing this vision.
