Bill Cosby’s health has deteriorated, defense attorney states
Bill Cosby’s defense attorney stated in a new court filing that the 89-year-old actor’s health has deteriorated, noting that he is legally blind, suffers from mobility restrictions, and can no longer use the toilet independently, life.dir.bg reported.
Health Issues Hinder Cosby Depositions
The disclosures emerged in response to a lawsuit brought by 10 accusers. Attorney Jennifer Bonjean stated in the court documents that Cosby’s advanced age and health issues make it difficult for him to defend himself against the allegations or travel for depositions. Bonjean noted that Cosby requires assistance at all times for basic needs to ensure his safety. The defense filing follows three missed depositions that prompted attorney Jordan Rutsky to ask a federal judge to compel Cosby to appear or face a default judgment for failing to fulfill evidence-gathering obligations.
Bonjean rejected claims of intentional violation, maintaining that Cosby remains confined to his home where he spent his birthday in isolation.
Cosby Faces Unpaid Legal Judgments
Alongside the deposition dispute, Cosby faces unpaid legal judgments. Donna Mocinger, who sued Cosby for sexual assault and won a case in March where jurors found him responsible, requested that the court impose additional interest and fees on top of an approximately $59 million settlement she was awarded. Mocinger claimed Cosby transferred funds to a trust for his daughter and sold his African art collection instead of paying the judgment.
Cosby has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. More than 60 women have accused him of various forms of sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, rape, and sexual harassment. His 2018 conviction for aggravated indecent assault was later overturned, leading to his release from prison.
