Biden Undergoes Radiation and Hormone Therapy for Aggressive Prostate Cancer
WASHINGTON (AP) – Former President Joe Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment as part of his plan to combat an aggressive form of prostate cancer diagnosed after leaving office, an aide confirmed Saturday. The 82-year-old Democrat received the diagnosis in May, revealing the cancer had spread to his bone after he reported urinary symptoms.
This growth comes six months after Biden ended his bid for reelection following a debate with Republican Donald Trump, where concerns about his age, health, and mental fitness where raised. The treatment plan underscores the seriousness of Biden’s condition, as his cancer carries a Gleason score of 9, indicating it is indeed among the most aggressive forms of the disease. Prostate cancer is graded on a scale of 6 to 10 using the Gleason score, with higher numbers signifying more rapid growth and spread.
Biden’s office initially announced the prostate cancer diagnosis in May. the former president also underwent surgery last month to remove skin cancer lesions from his forehead.Kelly Scully,a biden aide, disclosed the current treatment regimen of radiation and hormone therapy.
The news highlights the health challenges facing former leaders and the prevalence of prostate cancer, which affects one in five men. Continued monitoring and treatment will be crucial in managing Biden’s condition and assessing the effectiveness of the therapy.
