Biden Undergoes Skin cancer Surgery

WASHINGTON – Former U.S. President Joe Biden recently underwent a mohs surgery to treat skin cancer, a spokesperson confirmed to ABC News. The procedure, a common treatment for skin cancer involving the removal of thin layers of skin for examination, comes as the former president has a history of the disease.

This latest surgery adds to a pattern of skin cancer treatments for Biden, both during and before his presidency. In February 2023, a lesion removed from his chest was confirmed as basal cell carcinoma, with doctors stating all cancerous material was successfully removed. Prior to becoming president, Biden had also undergone Mohs surgery for non-melanoma skin cancers. His wife, former First Lady Jill biden, also had a skin cancer lesion removed via Mohs surgery in 2023, located over her right eye.

Mohs surgery is performed by carefully excising skin layers and microscopically examining each layer until no cancer cells remain. It is indeed frequently enough used for cancers in cosmetically sensitive areas or those with a high risk of recurrence.

The news arrives months after it was revealed in May that Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to the skeleton.
