Thimphu, Bhutan – Indian Prime Minister narendra Modi affirmed that those responsible for Monday’s explosion near Delhi‘s Red Fort “will not be spared,” addressing a crowd in Bhutan’s changlimithang Stadium Tuesday during a visit coinciding with a global Peace Prayer Festival adn celebrations for the 70th birthday of former Bhutanese King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The blast, which occurred Monday, injured several people and prompted a nationwide security alert.
the Prime Minister’s statement comes as investigations continue into the cause of the explosion, for which there is still no official confirmation. Modi is in Bhutan on a two-day state visit, participating in events alongside Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, who led thousands in prayers for the victims of the Delhi blast. The prayer service was held at the Changlimithang Stadium, where King Wangchuck stated, “We would like to take a moment and pray for the people who sadly lost their lives in Delhi. we’d like to pray for them.” He further added a prayer for India and Modi himself, saying, “May all your aspirations, your vision and your service to India bear fruit…May your dream of an even brighter, stronger, more prosperous India be fulfilled.”
The global Peace Prayer Festival is being held in conjunction with the birthday celebrations for the former king. Modi addressed the crowd shortly after his arrival, reiterating his commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the blast to justice. News agency ANI reported the King’s remarks and the Prime Minister’s address from the stadium.
